The Nuba people are recovering from a siege by their own government, under which they endured daily bombings, trauma and infectious disease.

Dr. Tom Catena was their only doctor while the planes of Omar al-Bashir bombed their homes, schools, crops, and even their children. While the ceasefire remains in effect today, he remains with the people who have captured his heart, continuing to bring them the medical assistance and support they need to recover from the attempted destruction of their homeland. 

Dr. Tom is the surgeon, ob-gyn, and pediatrician for a million people living in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, and he works seven days a week with limited resources in the middle of a war zone.

Every dollar donated goes to Dr. Tom and the Mother of Mercy hospital to buy supplies like vaccines and syringes, to support the local school and, most importantly, to continue to train the Nuba staff and prepare surgeons to one day operate their hospital independently.
